UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT

          SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA

In the week ending June 25, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 428,000, a decrease of 1,000 from the previous week's unrevised figure of 429,000. The 4-week moving average was 426,750, an increase of 500 from the previous week's unrevised average of 426,250.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.9 percent for the week ending June 18, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week's revised rate of 3.0 percent.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending June 18 was 3,702,000, a decrease of 12,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 3,714,000. The 4-week moving average was 3,703,500, a decrease of 11,250 from the preceding week's revised average of 3,714,750.

UNADJUSTED DATA

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 403,284 in the week ending June 25, an increase of 8,998 from the previous week. There were 444,712 initial claims in the comparable week in 2010.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.8 percent during the week ending June 18, unchanged from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 3,491,213, a decrease of 320 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 3.4 percent and the volume was 4,328,074.

The total number of people claiming benefits in all programs for the week ending June 11 was 7,511,613, a decrease of 30,701 from the previous week.

Extended benefits were available in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and West Virginia, during the week ending June 11.

Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 2,373 in the week ending June 18, an increase of 190 from the prior week. There were 2,584 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 134 from the preceding week.

There were 22,364 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending June 11, a decrease of 678 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 36,716, an increase of 1,124 from the prior week.

States reported 3,300,706 persons claiming EUC (Emergency Unemployment Compensation) benefits for the week ending June 11, an increase of 1,471 from the prior week. There were 4,516,594 claimants in the comparable week in 2010. EUC weekly claims include first, second, third, and fourth tier activity.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending June 11 were in Puerto Rico (4.8), Alaska (4.6), Pennsylvania (3.9), California (3.8), Oregon (3.8), Nevada (3.5), New Jersey (3.5), Connecticut (3.4), Arkansas (3.2), Illinois (3.2), Mississippi (3.2), New Mexico (3.2), Virgin Islands (3.2), and Wisconsin (3.2).

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending June 18 were in California (+4,393), New Jersey (+3,274), Florida (+3,146), Michigan (+1,794), Pennsylvania (+1,653), while the largest decreases were in Ohio (-2,769), Illinois (-2,557), New York (-2,215), Georgia (-2,119), and
Texas (-1,532).
